How to Choose Your Clients

In order to grow as a business, it's important to define who your ideal client is. The more selective you become when choosing your clients, the better the clients are that you attract. Here are some steps toward identifying your ideal client:

  • Identify your area of expertise. If you can't offer the services your clients seek, you're not choosing the right clients.

  • Define your customer profile. What are their challenges? Their net worth? Their pain points? What would they gain with your solution?

  • Learn from past clients. Which of your past clients brought you the most money the fastest? What do they have in common?

  • Disqualify clients. Who do you NOT want to do business with?

  • Set expectations. What will you give your clients that will ease their challenges?

  • Determine if they'll help grow your business. Who is in their network that would be another ideal customer for you?

  • Match your marketing to your message. If you're communicating scarcity in your marketing, you'll attract clients who are choosing scarcity. If you're marketing value, they'll come to you for value.

  • Believe in the value you bring. Having confidence in your own skills will communicate to potential clients. Nothing drives away a client faster than insecurity.

Finding the right clients will keep them loyal for the long-term, improve brand recognition and save you money in marketing dollars.
