Judgment Hinders Service
We've all heard about how we have to accept others, practice empathy and walk in the shoes of those who work for and with us. But how many of us actually follow that advice in our day-to-day lives and careers? And if not, why don't we?
Because it's simply easier and faster than the effort required to understand others' influences and motives.
We have all done it -- passed judgment on others or ourselves based on the biases we have adopted over a lifetime. We judge others, but most of all, we judge ourselves and hold grudges that shape the way we move forward in life due to inherited beliefs.
This judgment hinders our success and stops us from moving forward in our lives. Here are some ways we judge and how to overcome these habits:
Judgment leaves clues. You must become aware of the factors that affect your judgment, and confront them. Limit and/or avoid the triggers that endorse judgment in your life that are within your control. Powerful leaders are rarely reactive.
Judgment separates you from your goals . The more time you spend judging the world and others, the less time you are spending achieving greater goals. Become aware of the limiting beliefs that you may be feeling and how it is limiting you from taking risks.
Judgement is optional. Judgment is also a defense mechanism as a result of being judged. Make the decision to ignore your reactive approach to judgment. Successful leaders must remain unbiased in order to be effective when making decisions.
Judgement creates limitations. The more you judge others, the less likely you are to allow yourself to be present in environments where you believe you will be judged. Successful leaders face unsolicited judgment constantly. By avoiding opportunities due to self inflicted judgment, you limit your success. The moment you stop judging yourself, you eliminate the limitations on your own success.
Whether you are judging others for mistakes or yourself for perceived failures, the energy expended and the anxiety induced as a result are a complete waste of your potential. By practicing strategies of growth and improvement, you will realize a new level of success.
Are you ready to stop judging? I can help you with these techniques.
